Milagres college organized Konkani Manyatha Divas on 22 August 2025 in the college auditorium.
The objective of the programme was to celebrate the official constitutional recognition of the Konkani
language, to promote and preserve Konkani language, literature, culture and to foster cultural
understanding and unity among its diverse speakers and the broader community.
The chief guest Mr. Wilfred Lobo, a renowned Konkani writer addressed the students. In his message
he encouraged students to actively read Konkani magazines and books, highlighting that doing so
would help deepen their understanding and appreciation of their mother tongue. Furthermore, he
urged students to come forward and contribute by writing in Konkani, whether through stories, poems,
essays, or articles. He stressed that such participation would not only enrich the literary landscape but
also instill a sense of pride and responsibility in preserving the cultural heritage of Konkani.
On this occasion, Ms. Remona Evette was felicitated for her achievement. In his presidential address,
Rev. Dr. Alwin Serrao emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the Konkani language
among the younger generation.
The programme began with a welcome address by Mrs. Tressy Pinto. Mr. Austin Dsouza, Secretary of
the Konkani Sangh, proposed the vote of thanks. The formal programme was compered by Ms.
Leesha.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural programme presented by the students, which showcased
the rich traditions of Konkani culture. 185 students were present for the program.
