The department of food, nutrition, and dietetics at Milagres College hosted a successful one-day national-level workshop, 'Nutrisynergy', bringing together students and faculty to explore the
latest trends in food science and healthcare.
The event commenced with a formal inaugural ceremony, presided over by Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, Joint Secretary of Milagres Educational Institutions, Renowned physician Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya, Dr Alwyn Serao, principal Milagres College along with other dignitaries, graced the occasion. The workshop was symbolically inaugurated by the dignitaries preparing a healthy salad, mixing fresh grains and vegetables—representing the synergy of nutrition and health.
The workshop was strategically divided into three comprehensive technical sessions featuring experienced resource persons from the medical and industrial sectors. In session I, titled 'The Gut-Health Connection', Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya elaborated on gut food metabolism and the disease axis, offering students valuable insights into how digestive health influences overall systemic well-being. Session II, 'Career Pathways in Quality Control', was conducted by Shikha A.S, who addressed students on the professional landscape of Quality Control (QC). She outlined the essential skills and certifications required to build a successful career in food safety and industrial standards. Session III, 'Clinical Dietetics in Practice', was handled by Aruna Mallya, executive senior dietitian, KMC Hospital, Mangaluru. In the post-lunch session, she bridged the gap between academic theory and professional practice by explaining the transition from dietary theory to clinical applications in hospital settings. The educational sessions commenced with a formal introduction of the resource person, by Divyashree. Expert speakers shared insights on gut health, quality control, and clinical dietetics, offering valuable perspectives on career paths in the food industry and healthcare.
The workshop saw participation from total 11 colleges from Karnataka and Kerala States including 170 students and 5 faculty members. The workshop included live streaming to make the educational session available to a global audience, highlighting the importance of the event. E-certificates were generated to the online participants.
The event concluded with a valedictory function, where certificates were distributed to participants. Live feedback was collected from participants and the resource person to assess session quality and for future reference. Clevan Cordero and Anusha Anjaneya handled the compering duties. B Prathibha D’Souza, Head of B.Sc FND department delivered the welcome address, and S Shaila Moras, programme coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
