The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit of Milagres College organised a Health Awareness Programme titled “The Magic of Colourful Foods” in connection with Geneva Convention Day for the students of Milagres Central School from Classes V to X. The programme was held at the College Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with 194 students and staffs participating enthusiastically.

The objective of the programme was to create awareness among the students about the importance of healthy eating habits and balanced nutrition, to educate them about the health benefits of consuming a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables, and to help them understand the role of natural pigments, antioxidants and essential nutrients in promoting good health. The programme also aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of excessive junk food consumption and to encourage students to make healthy and nutritious food choices in their daily lives.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Shaila Moras, YRC Programme Officer. The YRC Humanity Team presented an action song, creating an energetic atmosphere and encouraging active participation among the students.

The resource person, Mr. Clevan Deekshith Cordeiro, alumnus of Milagres College, conducted an informative and engaging session on healthy eating habits. He highlighted the importance of a balanced diet, nutritious food choices and the harmful effects of excessive junk food consumption.

Focusing on the theme “The Magic of Colourful Foods,” Mr. Clevan explained the importance of including a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables in the daily diet. He introduced the students to the role of natural pigments, antioxidants and essential nutrients in promoting good health. Through simple and relatable examples, he encouraged the students to include fruits and vegetables of different colours in their meals.

The session was made lively and interactive through quizzes and puzzles, enabling the students to test their knowledge and participate actively. The students responded with great enthusiasm and keen interest throughout the programme.

Ms. Sinchana and Ms. Princel, YRC volunteers, assisted in the successful conduct of the programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Shaila Moras and Ms. Priya, Faculty Member of Milagres Central School, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, school authorities, teachers, students and YRC volunteers for their valuable support and participation.

The programme successfully created awareness among the students about healthy food choices, balanced nutrition, the benefits of colourful fruits and vegetables, and the importance of reducing junk food consumption. The combination of an informative session and interactive activities made the programme meaningful, engaging and beneficial for the young participants.
