Milagres Degree College, Hampankatta, participated in a Konkani competition organised by the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy and Mandd Sobhann on 20th August 2026 at Kalangan, Mangaluru. The event was organised as part of the celebration of Konkani Manyata Divas and aimed to promote and encourage the Konkani language, literature, culture and artistic talents among students.
The celebration of Konkani Manyata Divas began with the inauguration ceremony. The Konkani flag was hoisted by Mr. Joachim Stany Alvares, former President of Mandd Sobhann, along with Mr. David D’Souza, a renowned Konkani poet and writer, and Mr. Louis J. Pinto, former President of Mandd Sobhann. Their presence added great importance and dignity to the occasion.
Following the inauguration, the much-awaited competition began. Around ten teams from different institutions participated in the competition. Milagres Degree College was represented by a team of 15 students. The participants displayed their talents, creativity, confidence and teamwork throughout the competition.
In the evening, the prize distribution ceremony was conducted. Dr. Jaywant Nayak, Professor of Economics at University College, Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the participating teams and appreciated their efforts and performances.
Milagres Degree College, Hampankatta, achieved an excellent result by securing the First Prize for Best Performance. Adding another achievement to the college’s success, Floyd Pinto of 3rd BHS won the Second Prize for Best MC. These accomplishments brought great pride and happiness to the students, teachers and the entire college community.
The team received valuable encouragement and support from the Principal, Rev. Dr. Alwin Serrao, and the Konkani Lecturer, Ms. Pramila Mascarenhas. Their guidance and motivation played an important role in helping the students prepare for the competition and perform confidently.
The programme concluded with the singing of the Konkani Anthem, bringing the event to a meaningful and memorable end. The event was a valuable experience for all the participants and will remain a proud and memorable achievement for the college.
