The Eco and Life Science Association organized the Seed Diversity Collection and Display Competition on 07 September 2026 from 2:50 PM to 3:20 PM in Room 201, with the theme “Seeds – The Heritage of Life.” The competition aimed to create awareness about seed diversity, encourage students to explore and identify different types of seeds, promote plant biodiversity conservation, and develop interest in nature and sustainable practices. The competition provided students with practical exposure to the collection, identification, labelling and display of different seed varieties obtained from vegetables, fruits, herbs, trees, cereals, pulses, spices and other plants. Students were encouraged to collect healthy, properly dried and viable seeds and arrange their collections neatly using the eco-friendly display practices. Special emphasis was given to easy-to-grow, traditional and indigenous seed varieties and their importance in preserving plant diversity.
A total of eight students participated in the competition, bringing and displaying a diverse collection of 40 different varieties of seeds. The seed collections were evaluated by Mrs. Chethana Kumari, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Asha Jyothi, Faculty, based on the variety and quality of seeds, identification and labelling, presentation, and overall display. The collected seeds were retained by the Association for future plantation activities. Sweedal of 2nd BHS secured the First Prize with 71 points, while Crystal of 3rd FND secured the Second Prize with 69 points.
The competition encouraged students to develop a greater appreciation for seed diversity, plant biodiversity and conservation of traditional and indigenous seed varieties. It also provided meaningful experiential learning through hands-on seed collection and display, while promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. The activity was successfully coordinated by Ms. Divyashree, Eco and Life Science Coordinator.
